2023 Golden Valley Seymour Award Nominees
The Seymour Memorial Awards were established to honor both Charles F. Seymour and his devoted wife, Marian H. Seymour, who together supplied the inspiration and leadership which fostered the California Scholarship Federation. The Seymour Award is regarded as one of the highest scholastic honors given to high school students in the state of California.
Each year, Golden Valley can nominate two candidates for consideration.  Meet this year's nominees:
      Kellen Galban
Kellen Galban
With a 4.57 gpa, Kellen Galban has certainly demonstrated great academic acumen.  He is a generous classmate who helps others freely.  Kellen has been active on campus, participating in Science Olympiad, Fighting Game Club, Asian Student Union, and American Sign Language Club.  This year, he stepped in as Vice President of Membership for our CSF chapter.  As a result of his efforts, chapter membership has nearly doubled.  In his free time, Kellen practices Tae Kwon Do.  He has earned a 3rd degree black belt in the discipline.
      Marie Hamilton
Marie Hamilton
Marie Hamilton boasts an impressive 4.47 gpa.  She currently serves as editor-in-chief of the Grizzly Gazette.  Marie has contributed to numerous programs in her years at Golden Valley including girls soccer, Red Cross Club, Astronomy Club, and Key Club.  This year, she serves as Vice President of Community Service for our CSF chapter.  She helped plan and execute our most successful food drive to date.  Marie is an active math tutor and volunteer outside of school.

Following each semester's grading period, students can apply for membership. Students are not automatically inducted into CSF; they must apply for membership each semester.
CSF Membership is based on scholarship and gained after qualifying grades are earned. Each semester is based on the previous semester report cards. In order to become a member, the student must submit an application each semester the student is eligible. Applications are accepted at the start of each semester for about two weeks. A point system specified in the CSF State By-Laws establishes the membership requirements.
  • a "D" or "F" /no pass in any subject disqualifies students  for that semester
  • 7 of 10 points must be earned in academic subjects and the remaining 3 points may be from non-academic areas.
  • NO POINTS ARE GIVEN for PE, summer school, classes taken off campus/COC/online that are offered at GVHS, student service/lab assistant or repeated courses.
