For students who have signed up for the AP Lang practice test, periods 4 & 5 meet in the library from 8 am- 9 am. You will NOT receive your extra credit points if you arrive late for this test. You will NOT be given extra time on this test if you arrive late.

Only for students taking the optional practice AP Lang multiple choice exam during CAHSEE: Your extra credit points will depend on how high your score is on the optional practice multiple choice exam. You will get extra credit points for simply taking the practice test. However, if your score is 50% or higher, you will receive more extra credit.

3) have a SOAPSTone 
4) MEMORIZED COMPLETELY!! You will be performing these in front of the class with NO notes. If I have to feed you more than two lines, then you will get points taken off.

Read "Stop Coddling the Rich" Warren Buffet article AND Obama's speech (excerpt-or you can just watch the video up to the first 15 min) by Wednesday. Do a SOAPSTone on both and annotate while you read. What is the purpose and point of each speaker and how effective are they reaching their audience? What rhetorical strategies do you see each author using? Think about how it relates to the documentary Inequality for All we watch in class.

There will be a Socratic Seminar this Wednesday on these articles. Everybody has to speak. See attached PDF file for instructions and questions to be answered/discussed during the Socratic Seminar.

Guest Speaker HW

We will be having a guest speaker who is an actress, author, playwright, and director come to our class next week on Wednesday, January 14. Her name is Lee Kessler. Your HW will be to browse through her website and write down a few questions to ask her when she visits our class. Think about questions you have on the writing process (editing, revising, etc) and the importance and power of literacy in today’s world. For those of you who are interested in theater or screenwriting may ask about Kessler’s theater adaptations.
