Monday 5/20 Agenda
I apologize for the delay since my last posting. We have been working in class reviewing for the AP test and then spending a couple days decompressing and celebrating the completion of the test last week.

Today all students were given a "Grade Improvement Opportunity" which stated what work they would need to complete in order to improve their grade by one letter grade. The plans were individualized for each student. The handouts necessary to complete the work are posted below. If parents or students have questions, please contact me asap. All work must be completed by the last day of class.

Thursday 4/25 Agenda
1) Students worked in their groups to complete their Industrialization and Society notes from last night.
2) Grade printouts were distributed and students were given an opportunity to ask questions, search through no-name papers, and get handouts needed to improve their grades by tomorrow.
3) The Chapter 32 packet was handed out and each group was given an assignment to complete related to one of the four empires discussed in the chapter. When they come back tomorrow, groups will exchange notes with other groups in a peer-teaching format.

3) Effects of Industrialization - working in groups, students divided the responsibility for completing one of the four pages that I handed out yesterday = Demographics and Migration, Industry and Society, The Socialist Challenge, or Global Effects. Each member of the group is responsible for coming in on Thursday with their notes complete for their topic so they can share with the other members of their group.

Week of April 8-12
* I apologize for not keeping up with the posting this week. I have been struggling with a cold and am also a single parent while my husband is out of town for work. As a result, I have not been keeping up with grading or my website as much as I would like. I should be able to get everything caught up over the weekend so we'll be back on track.

* This week students have been working through a PowerPoint and video notes on the Age of Revolutions. The notes pages as well as the PPT and video links (28, 29, 30, 31) are listed below. Anything we don't finish in class on Friday will be concluded on Monday.

* The first AP Review session was Thursday and it covered some overall concepts related to the test. We will start formal reviews of each time period on Monday at lunch. Students are strongly encouraged to attend in order to maximize their study time for the AP Exam.

HOMEWORK
I have not been giving any homework beyond their work on the CST Review Packets. With the STAR testing looming next week, students have received reviews of the CA Standards so they can prepare for the STAR test. Although it does not coincide directly with where we are studying in AP World, anything that is on the STAR test will also show up on the AP test so it is not hurting the students to take the time to complete the reviews. As of Friday afternoon, they should have turned in Clusters 1 & 2 which I will grade over the weekend. They have also received Clusters 3 & 5 which are due next Wednesday (for period 7) and Thursday (for periods 4 and 6). Cluster 4 covers World War II which I will talk about during class on Monday and Tuesday.

Today was our final day of working through the DBQ writing process. Using the same prompt we have been working with all week, students analyze the official rubric for the test and then proceed to read and grade 3 sample student responses on their own. They completed a reflection comparing their own work with the samples they read in class and then learned what score the samples actually received. (If you were absent, you will need to come in outside of class time to make up this activity since the student work samples cannot be posted online or leave the classroom).

Tuesday 2/19 Agenda and Homework
I apologize for the delay in posting homework. I was gone for two days last week and therefore got behind in my updates. I will try to get back on track from this point forward.

Today students had one more day to complete the activity they had started with my sub last week. They have been researching key events from the time of the Renaissance. They were given one last class period to get it done before it is collected at the start of class tomorrow. Any work they didn't complete in class was homework. The pages needed for this assignment are attached.

Thursday 2/7 - Tuesday 2/12
For the past four days, students have been working on their Unit 3 Online Test. There are 70 multiple choice questions and 11 short answer so it has been time consuming. Students have been allowed to use their notebooks after the first day.

In addition, students also have had the opportunity to re-take the Winter Break Test or the Chapter 19 Formative Assessment online. Those tests have been available during class and at lunch. In addition, they were available for students to access them online from home starting Monday 2/11 at 6:00 PM and ending Thursday 2/14 at 8:00 AM. This has given students the maximum opportunity to be successful on this part of their grade.

As students have been testing, I have been grading notebooks. Scores will be added to their grades once they are calculated.

1) Warm-Up - students worked with a partner to develop a T-chart comparing post-classical era developments in Africa to one other region we have studied (Europe, Middle East, China, India) - see attached instructions.
2) Mapping Activity - students worked with their partners to re-create a map of Africa from their textbook that includes the key city-states and trade routes of the chapter. After re-creating the map, they were asked to write a summary of the significance of each location to the historical development of Africa (written in the margins of the map). Students were told they could only use their notebooks so they could continue to analyze the effectiveness of their note-taking (they can use their textbooks tonight if necessary)

Take Cornell Notes as you read unless you have approval from me to take a different style of notes. Cornell Notes need to show quality summarizing and critical thinking/higher-order questions. If I am grading your notebook on any given night, then complete your notes on a separate sheet of paper and just attach them to your NB.

Friday 1/18 Agenda
1) Organize notebooks for grading - NBs will be collected starting next Tuesday (attached Table of Contents)
2) Notes - Europe in Charlemagne's Time (attached) - read the attachment but do NOT paste it in your notebook; use it to take Cornell notes on events related to Charlemagne's rule during the Middle Ages.

Monday - Thursday (1/14-1/17)
1) Daily Warm-Ups on Tuesday and Wednesday in your COMP book. If you were absent, the warm-up will be in your COMP book for you.
2) Winter Break Test - Students worked individually Monday and Tuesday and then in groups on Wednesday to complete a 50-question test based on their winter break assignment of chapters 17 & 20. The test was open-note and therefore test corrections will not be an option.
3) Feudalism Comparison of Europe and Japan - Students have worked in groups all week to research characteristics of feudalism in Europe and Japan. They are then categorizing and drawing conclusions based on their research graphic organizers. The next step was to complete a chart of similarities and differences based on political, social, and economic themes. Finally, students were asked to write a thesis and essay outline in response to a prompt about this topic. All resources are attached.

Due on Friday 1/18: All work from the feudalism comparison will be added to your notebooks which will be collected and graded over the long weekend.
