Finally, write a summary of the argument(s) presented in the articles and explain whether you agree or disagree with those arguments. Your response should specify which additional article you chose. 1) F451 Writing Prompt 1 (10 minutes) 3/23/16: Re-read the description of the parlor walls on pp. 44-46. Describe how the experience differs from our current entertainment. What seems better? What seems worse? Use specific textual evidence to support your points. 

 

Montag: "We burned an old woman and her books."

Mildred: "It's a good thing the rug's washable." --p. 49

Describe a time when you told someone something and did not receive the response you wanted / hoped for. How did their response make you feel about them or about the situation? How can you compare this with Montag's situation? 

 

3) F451 Writing Prompt 3 (10 minutes) 3/25/16: Friday Free-write!

 

Do you think people should be allowed to say whatever they think? Should they be allowed to post whatever they want on the internet (social media, blogs, comment sections on YouTube, etc.)? In other words, should "Freedom of Speech" have any limitations? If so, what are they? 

 

Most people agree that some books, movies, video games, and television shows are "inappropriate" for children and/or teenagers. Do you think current rating systems (G/PG13/R for movies, E/MA for video games, etc.) are effective? Should they be changed, expanded to include books, or even eliminated? If so, what new system would you propose and why? 

 

What do you believe is the government's role in society? What should the government control? What should they provide? Be as specific as possible. 

 

Out of all the poems in the world, why would Bradbury choose this one? How does it relate to the message of F451? 

 

What did you think of the ending of F451? Was it different from what you expected? Do you think it calls for a sequel? Why or why not?
